- Creation -
February was always to be something unique, even from the point where he was genetically altered as just a single cell to be created as he was. See February was unlike normal human children. Like everyone he was able to generate aura, use dust and even fight with the capability of a fully grown grimm. However at some point governments realized that... that wasn’t enough. They needed more, more power, more longevity, more warriors for their dwindling armies. And so the Celestial initiative was enacted in secret. To create such warriors.
At first the initiative was a small, slow going process. A team of ten warriors with scientific backgrounds who worked day and night to research the capability of the human body. How could they push the limits to get faster, stronger men and women to fight with and for them? And so they tested, they tested on themselves, they tested on others, and they waited, and learned, and tested again. Everything they did was to further mankind, to create something... new. Something that could fight the menace that was grimm from a new standpoint long after humankind had given up the fight. They were responsible for single handedly creating many new ways to fight. Transformable weapons, dust enhancements, new forms of aura significance that were passed along from generation to generation spawning families. But as time went on, their team grew larger, and their experiments grew more secretive, more dangerous, more.. inhumane.
Fast forward to forty years before the start of the story. In a secluded lab deeply embedded in the Vytal wilderness, an experiment was underway that would test the limits of how far the countries of Remnant were prepared to go to secure their lands. Many dust and aura sensitive women were taken with their homes and paired with some of the greatest hunters of the generation, setting the stage for those to come. They were told that they would be allowed to develop naturally, nothing would be done to them, but as they grouped together and found bonds, small changes were noticed as time went on. Some would go missing for small portions of time, and when they returned, it was almost as if a piece of them was missing. Eventually they all had children, their children going on to become well known individuals in their own right, but unknown to those children they had more siblings hid away from them in the secrecy of the underground laboratory.
Bred and genetically altered over countless generations in such a short time as ten years, embryos were fertilized, artificially accelerated in growth, and then bred again, creating the most ideal compilation of genetics. Finally when they believed that they had created the proper concoction, they then altered the genetics further, using what they had learned they proceeded to create several versions of their creations, nicknamed the Calendar Series, these children were named after the month and day that they were created. February 30th was for all intents and purposes created on this day, the laboratory following a different calendar system than the rest of the world at the time. However knowing that the children that would coming in February would naturally be coming in a rather off kilter month, three children were created that were vastly more different than the others. Of the thirty-one children created during the month of February, 15 and 30 were created to be polar opposites. 15 was of the water and ice nature, however she was given the property of love and creation. Created to be naturally attuned to any and all creations however she had the predisposition of being attracted to her opposite. 30 on the other hand was of fire and heat, given the property of solitude and destruction. Unlike his opposite he was more pensive, and less excitable. When placed with the other children he would stick out like a sore thumb, just like his counterpart. However they were inseparable, though not because of 30’s lack of effort. It just seemed that 15 would always be able to find him, no matter where he went to seclude himself.
It was obvious to the scientists that these two would be compatible in the future and even planned for what their children would be like. However what they did not plan was for the Month series to go out of their control, being influenced by an outside force just as they were performing tests on the young children. It happened slowly over the course of the year, but by time it was noticed it was too late. All three hundred and sixty-eight children had been too affected by the influence, mentally altering them as it chose too and sending them partially insane. In a last ditch effort to cull the insurrection, the scientists had locked down the facility before flooding it with a flammable poisonous gas. Even if there had been survivors of the poison, upon igniting the gas the entire facility went up in flames, causing the ground to shake violently as it was blown apart before collapsing as it lost structural integrity opening up the adjacent caves that had grimm within. Of the three hundred and sixty-eight children and one hundred and forty faculty, none were accounted for, however it seemed that some would make it out as evident by 30’s survival.
- Forward -
From there, 30 was found several miles outside the facility, the area had become a ‘threat to the survival of the human race’ and was subsequently and quietly cleansed. Those who hadn’t escaped were murdered and burned, or buried under several tons of earth as the governments of the world worked hard to erase any existence of this particular branch. Thankfully he had been found by a fleeing couple and was taken with them as they left the area, moving far away from the area to leave the mainland behind. Taken to Bellmuse he was raised up along side his other genetically altered brethren. The couple often asked him where he had come from, thinking that maybe he was one of the children of the other couples, but after describing where he had come from the two adults had vowed to hide away the rest of his past. They worked hard, the mother being an accomplished psychic, and the father now working for the government of Bellmuse to clear up and straighten his past understanding gravely that it should never come to light who or what he was. His mother would block away all of his memories, locking them tight in his subconscious while his father created an all new persona for him. Renamed Marcus and given the last name of his parents Saint, he was enrolled in the local training facility. From there he trained in public.
Upon discovery of his semblance, he was given even more extensive training, his natural programming becoming more and more apparent as he grew. The young man knew there was something off about him, his siblings were nothing like him, his parents looked nothing like him. He felt like a strange creature in an even stranger land, but no matter what he wasn’t told who or what he was. Over time this level of secrecy only drove a wedge between him and his ‘family’ and upon getting the invitation to Syne, immediately jumped at the chance to find out the truth for himself. However unknown to him, the governments had taken notice, and it would only be a matter of time before they either reclaimed their stolen property, or removed a rogue element that threatened the peace and balance around them...
