When faced with those of the Faunus race, She will have a bit of nervousness, traumatized by the past. This fear is often visible, as she has a bit of trouble wearing a mask. History and Sample
- History:
- Melody grew up in an orphanage in the Mistral Kingdom. She never knew what had happened to her parents that caused her to be forced to live trapped in that tiny building filled with parentless children. Whatever it was, she hated them for it. She couldn't stand living there, unappreciated by the Faunus owner for being human. Said owner was convinced that the humans living in that orphanage would grow up to be like all of the other racist humans. It made one question why she was running an orphanage in the first place. The Human kids were treated much differently than the Faunus. The Human children were put under a stricter enforcement of the orphanage's rules, and any rule that was broken was followed by severe punishment, whether it was getting locked in a small closet for being late for dinner, or getting Whipped and Beaten for even the slightest accidental bump against one of the Faunus kids, who would sometimes lie and say one of the Humans did something wrong, just for a laugh.
Even so, Melody did have one thing keeping her sane, and that was music. The only way she ever found to keep her spirits relatively high was to shut herself into the attic whenever she could and play her violin. It was a sad old instrument, supposedly left so that she always had a piece of where she came from, as it was the only thing she was left with besides her name. Melody Windsong Whatever-her-last-name-was. Since the moment she could pick it up properly, she had taught herself how to play, reading books about music and watching Symphonies whenever she could get ahold of the television. As time passed, she had mastered the intrument, to the point where even the hateful owner could not deny the beauty of her notes. It was both a blessing... and a terrible curse.
Melody generally tried not to be holed up in the attic while potential adopters were around. During those times, she was much more focused with escaping Hell, praying that a nice family would come for her. That they could take her away. It was pretty difficult to say the least. Human families were very rare, due to the less than satisfactory customer service they always received, and Faunus families usually wanted Faunus children. and with the Faunus owner hyping up the Faunus children so much, the Human children were left, time and time again. In any case, one day a faunus man appeared, looking for a child to adopt. Little 11 year old Melody was not aware of this, having already been in the attic with her Violin. A sudden shout of her name was what caused her to stop. It was the orphanage owner, calling for her. Except the voice sounded... off... It was not nearly as harsh as it normally was. As Melody decended down the steps, she soon found out why.
The fox man was very well groomed, with his hair slicked back and his expensive looking suit. It was clear that this man was very wealthy. No wonder the owner was acting so nice. She didn't want to look bad in front of such a client. As it turned out, the faunus man had heard Melody playing, and insisted on meeting her. The little human girl held high hopes, and they were met when he ultimately chose to adopt her. Melody could not express her joy. She was finally getting out of what she considered a prison. However, she did not anticipate how much worse her new situation was.
The Faunus man turned out to be a very high ranking member of Mistral society, and as such, very corrupt. For the next few weeks, Melody underwent what he called 'Training', but she was pretty sure the correct term was 'Torture'. She would get beaten for the slightest signs of disobedience. She would get beaten for any moment's hesitation. She was not even allowed to process what she had been asked to do before she got moving, or she would get beaten. Went the wrong direction? Beaten. Nearly tripped? Beaten. She was not even Allowed To speak or she would get beaten for it. 'Luckily' The man had a powerful healing sembance, so that he could remove all marks just to freely beat her again. Once Melody had been completely broken down, he could move onto the true reason for her adoption.
Basically, She was to act as his personal entertainment. So whenever he had a gettogether with his snobby rich friends, during dinners, sometimes just reading a book in the den. Melody was there providing the ambiance. With that, came many rules. She was not to play too loudly or too softly, She was never to make eye contact with ANYONE, she was only to play songs provided to her, and under no circumstances was she permitted to stop playing without proper permission. She was allowed one designated meal per day, and when she was not playing for anyone, She could only stay in her bedroom that locked from the outside. The worst part was, She was not allowed to make music outside of her entertainment duties. just humming to herself got her in trouble a few times. She was a thousand times more miserable than she was before! Just when it seemed like light had abandoned her for good, she found that one last ray of hope three years later.
As it turned out, one of the Man's rich buddies, a Human, in fact, noticed how miserable the staff was, and did some investigation. When she had enough evidence, she even got the local authorities to help. The man was arrested and the entire staff was released to live their lives properly. Being 14, Melody knew that she would just be sent back to another orphanage, and she was done with those. So she ran away in the confusion, choosing to bum it out in freedom for a while, leaving her violin behind.
Homeless, Melody Traveled around for the next few years. She kept away from Faunus whenever she could, having developed a somewhat stong fear for the race after everything that had happened to her. Despite her PTSD however, she still loved music enough to pick up guitar on her travels. She only played for herself, hating to play in front of others due to the aforementioned PTSD. She kept on going, doing odd jobs here and there to keep herself fed, and her journey eventually led her to the island kingdom of Bellmuse. It was at this time where she made a big decision. She had been moving around, in and out of homelessness, for years. She was now 21 and she could not keep doing this. Time had healed her wounds into battle scars, and now she needed to make a living. So she chose to enroll into the Local hunter's school, Syne.

Rani stood up, though it was slightly difficult with the sand moving beneath her feet. It was hard to get some balance for a bit. She dusted off her blue petal and cress dress and looked over to Brother Dove. The bird shook his body to get rid of the sand as well. Rani was relieved, Brother Dove didn't seem to be injured from the crash landing into.... where was this again? Rani looked around but all she saw was sand, sand, and more sand. She knew about sand, she was from an Island after all, but never this much and it was never so hot.
That was when she realized something horrible. The wingless hopped onto Brother Dove's back and they took off, reaching high altitudes so that Rani could see the world below. Of course, she didn't like what she saw and her heart sank. Where was the water? Back on Neverland sand accompanied water, but where was it? The more they flew the more that Rani could see that there was nothing but sand and occasionally rock. What a horrible world to live in where no one could enjoy a drink or swim. Rani cried for those folk. She really loved to cry.
As the fairy and the dove continued in search of a change in scenery, Rani suddenly spotted a large patch of blue. She perked up immediately. "Water?!" She Directed brother dove and they landed, nearly slipping and falling on the "Ice! ... Wait ice?" This was odd, it was much too hot for ice to form, and Rani couldn't detect any sea life below. Oh well, water is water. And ice was indeed water, just frozen. Rani ran out and started skating on the ice, just as she would all the time in Fairy Haven.
