Overall Personality:
Grey is a friendly sort of male, always trying to see the good instead of the bad, and doing his best to keep an upbeat personality at all times. Generally, he's good at making friends, able to pick up on social cues and small body movements in order to understand what his conversation partner is 'truly' saying, not necessarily with just their words. In that, he's skilled at reading people, and situations, quite well, which lends well to his more thought-oriented style of approach to most things.
However, like most, he understands the need to fight. He prefers to defend, rather than to attack, keeping himself and his friends safe from harm. He's always willing to stand beside a friend who may have done wrong in order to lessen their punishment, or to take some of it on himself. While not necessarily a joking type who makes wisecracks, he's nonetheless a stalwart, solid companion for any to have.
But that does not come without its faults. Grey tends to be opinionated on a few matters, and given his own intelligence, tends to be a bit more self-confident than he should be about things. He's been burned before when assuming incorrectly, but even still it hasn't registered on him fully. He can generally rein these in around people he doesn't know, but the more comfortable he gets with people, the more these traits can come out. With that being said, he's also more willing to listen to the advice of friends.
He acts more as the defender for his allies, able to take a great deal of punishment. He uses this to his advantage, often taunting and forcing opponents into attacking him, leaving others to do the cleanup while he keeps them distracted.
Abilities
Aura type: Recover
Aura Color: Silver
Semblance: Healing - Grey can heal himself or others for 20HP per 30Aura used.
Item 1: Weapon: Longsword "Tactics" -
The sword itself is just over three feet, handle to sword point. The pommel is wrapped in black leather, but the sword itself is a simple gray steel. No decoration of any kind is found on the weapon, and it seems to be much as it looks: simple and practical.
Item 2: Armor: Round Shield "Strategy" -
Much like the sword, Strategy is very utilital. There are no designs upon its smooth, gunmetal-grey surface. The edges, while not sharpened, are thin enough to cause damage, allowing the defensive item to double as a weapon as well.
History and Sample
- History:
- Grey was born in the small village of Sermia, on the outskirts of the Finnek Forest to Alan and Ellen Dawnlen. Alan was something of a survivalist, hunting and trapping for most of their food, and to assist others in the village as well. Ellen was incredibly intelligent, and served as something of a doctor for the village. It was from his mother's kindness and his father's attention to duty that Grey's morals were crafted.
From a young age, he learned from both his parents. At twelve, he finally started to go on hunts with his father, and it was on this first hunt that the Grimm, of which he had heard only rumors, attacked. His father's skill with bow and axes put down the creatures, but the boy found himself under attack by a Grimm. He struggled, taking several wounds, but managed to take down the creature (with a little help from his father.)
Still, that event was one that shaped his future. One of the elders in the village had studied swordplay, and Grey, with his parents' consent, began to learn from him. This fellow taught him never to rush, and never to act without thought. To further emphasize this, he taught the boy chess, forcing him to use his wit over his muscle to solve the problems. At first, Grey did not follow the lessons well, and wanted to focus more on how to defeat the Grimm, but as time went on and the elder explained stories of legend where smaller forces were able to defeat larger numbers through tactics (as well as showing this on the chess board in different strategies,) Grey began to understand a little more about what he needed to do.
His swordplay and quick wit expanded each day, and soon, at sixteen, he asked the town's blacksmith to attempt to forge him a weapon and shield. The blacksmith warned that it wouldn't be fancy, and to Grey, that was fine. The weapons that came forth he named Tactics and Strategy, and he took these with him when he went on hunts with his father. With the threat of the Grimm ever-increasing, he had to rely on them more and more, eventually becoming his father's shield during the hunting trips.
During one trip, he and Alan got separated, and by the time Grey made it to his father, the man had taken a substantial wound. With no knowledge of how, simply a will to do so, he manifested his aura for the first time, using it to heal his father well enough to help him limp back to the village. At this time, it was understood that Grey had something...special. Different. His father proclaimed it as a destiny, as unsure as he was.
When news came of Syne, his parents knew that this would be the time to send him. He wanted to protect not only his village of Sermia, but everywhere. Learning from a Huntress would be the best step he could take and he did so, without hesitation. He would defend them all.

- "You okay, son?" Alan's voice came, the man having taken up residence in a tree, for now. The longbow was held fiercely, an arrow nocked and string pulled taut as his keen eye watched for others.
Grey gave a single nod. "I'm fine," he spoke. More of the wolf-like Grimm came from the forest, then. There were only three, thankfully. He'd scared off the rest of them. His stance widened as his legs slid further apart and he set the shield before him, the flat of his blade resting upon it. "Come on!" he called out, aiming to draw them to him.
The creatures took the bait, snarling and lunging forward at the swordsman. As the first drew close, his stance shifted and his arm snaked out, slamming the shield into the first's maw. Turning as he pulled the shield in, he used the force to rotate, slashing his blade across the next nearest's snout. It gave a cry, but as it moved to lunge forward, an arrow embedded itself in its neck, the creature dropping to the ground.
He thrust his blade forward at the undamaged one, as a feint. The creature dodged, allowing him to whirl, slamming the edge of his shield against its skull. A second arrow fired from the trees, the feathers sticking out from its fangs as the arrow pierced the roof of the beast's mouth and it, too, crumpled.
The one he'd struck originally noted Alan in the trees, and moved to take a lunging jump for him. Grey turned, loosing his shield and hurling it like a discus, the weapon slamming into the creature's side. It gave a yelp of pain as its arc was changed. He followed it, leaping into the air before grabbing the rebounded shield. Once more he hurled it, the shield's edge burying itself in a tree, right beneath the Grimm. It landed on the hastily-created platform as Grey came down, his knees on its chest as his weapon buried itself in its throat.
As the creature ceased its death throes, he gave a grunt, pulling the weapon out and cleaning it on the beast's fur before removing his shield and dropping to the ground. "All clear," he called to his father. The man nodded, then, pride welling up in his chest at his son, who was leaving for Syne within the week...
