History and Sample
- History:
- Being a native to Bellmuse means many things, one being that you did not travel a great deal, being so confined as one may be in the small island-scape. This can lead to a fair amount of wanderlust in the youth of the land, even as far as to lead to a rebellious nature. This accurately describes Aka as she was in her adolescence, as she was not always the reserved busybody that she has become.
She studied with her classmates by day, but as she garnered friendships with these like minded wanderers, they began to branch out. Aka was young during the some of the younger years of the island as well, but well after the great war. Nevertheless, the defensive state of the island was nowhere close to how it is today, and it showed in the uneasy nature of the parents then. The last thing that anyone wanted was for a child to die because they wandered too far from home. This didn't matter to young teenagers who felt tied down in their homeland, and Aka spent a lot of time climbing up and down the rockiest cliffs of Kompress, just wanting to find what the beach had to offer to her.
This wanderlust bore fruit as she grew older, albeit in a very negative way. Aka refused to remain on the island for her entire life, and enlisted into combat school, meaning she ended up moving to Vale with a transfer family for some time. Combat school was unable to truly "tame" her rebellious nature, although, it did well to smooth her in preparation for life at Beacon. Although, her fighting skills were nothing if not standard, she graduated from Beacon in the top 1% of her class, and earned herself the title of Huntress.
After her graduation, Aka traveled the mainland of Vale, taking job after job from any boards she could find, garnering combat experience and something of a reputation in the years that followed, including praise for her understanding in Grimm psychology and logic. She didn't spend much time indoors, so Aka learned a great deal about the creatures she fought day and night to survive. Aka even went as far as to write a journal which became her entire compendium of Grimm types, fighting, and logicality. This reputation earned her an invitation back home. Syne was under construction at the time, and needed professors to found the first few years of instruction. Under any other circumstance, Aka would have turned this down, in memory of how stir crazy that the island had made her in her youth. However, two things stuck out to her, the pay was amazing, for starters. Also, Aka really wanted to grant other natives of Bellmuse the ability to explore without fear.
Aka accepted and spent the following 2 years as the Grimm studies teacher. In time, she truly grew to enjoy her time as a teacher and even grew to love children. This love was reciprocated by her students, because of the stories that she was able to tell from her travels throughout Vale, and it made her almost feel like a parent to a number of children that want to be something that she was. 2 years passes quickly though, and as the academy began to become more settled and gathered more options for instructors, some of the pay which had brought her here diminished.
Aka resigned from her position in favor of a job in Atlas as a security adviser. She looked forward to the opportunity to explore yet again, and took the first chance she could to arrive in Atlas. Aka was unprepared for the stress which the Atlesian culture could garner for someone unaccustomed to it, and in time she began to crack.
Long shifts with violent individuals, in a cold landscape that produced raw negativity from the mistreated and impoverished. This stress was exemplified in one of her first operations, one dust moving operation went sour when the caravan they were aboard was attacked. It was meant to be a simple delivery, but quickly turned into a massacre as the fighting dragged on, that's when the grimm arrived. The battle was one of great attrition, yet there was nothing that Aka could do as the stress broke her aura. They won the fight, and were surveying the damages when a gunman had hidden himself in some wreckage. Aka was shot, taking her left eye.
Aka thought she was dead, she had been certain actually. Yet, she still woke up some weeks later, in almost perfect condition. One of the perks of her job had been medical care, granting her access to experimental technologies from the Atlas brass. Her eye was replaced and Aka got back to work. That fight had taken place in her first month on the job.
The gritty work humbled Aka, taming that old rebellion she'd felt completely. The stress never stopped though, and Aka began to turn to other vices to cure it, starting small, she began to smoke. When the smoking stopped helping, she began to drink, and then she started abusing pills. This led to horrific stupors and benders, and she'd gamble her paycheck away whenever they'd happen.
Aka really felt small when even the pills stopped making her feel normal, and she cracked fully under the pressure and quit her job before anything worse happened to her, returning home to Bellmuse and staying with a friend in Springwood. This went on for some time, and her dependencies went along as well, she didn't work and hardly left the house. Her friend demanded that she get a job, growing tired of her useless nature, and left without options, Aka got a job as a waitress. She earned very little, but it was something, enough to start becoming normal herself. She has never kicked her habits, but they gradually lowered as Aka regained a lease on life until she could start to introspect what had happened to her.
Aka regained pride in herself, and dropped the helpless attitude, looking for some way to get a grip on her life again, and resolved that it would all begin with supporting herself financially. She worked as hard as she could to earn as much as she could, but being a waitress just didn't offer that. That was when she started hunting again, earning more money but also revealing that she was back in town.
She caught some attention, and reconciled with other old friends among Bellmuse, revealing several job openings at the academy. It hit her then, that her time at the academy was the happiest she had ever been in her whole life. She reapplied to her old position, but unfortunately it wasn't in the cards anymore. That job was fairly high level, and was offered her job as a Counselor. It pained her to work from there, but once more, Aka had little option. Aka took the job, resolving to work hard to retake control of her life from this point forward.

- Everything hurt. Aka there were no dreams in that hazy blackness, only slow and rhythmic pounding. She wasn't sure if she would live or not, preparing for her body to fail every time she groggily regained consciousness. This time felt... different. The fog was gone when Aka opened her eyes, replaced by a blinding white light that encompassed her entire vision, what vision she had anyway. It cleared, slowly but surely, and her ears began to cease their ringing. The room was calm, dim even. Rhythmic pounding was replaced by a slow methodical beep which matched tempo perfectly.
Aka was confused, she looked around the room a bit more until she could piece things together.
Oh... She was in a hospital. Her memories were cropping up until she remembered how she'd gotten here. Many people may have freaked out, Aka, however, breathed a sigh of relief, simply happy that she had made it out of that hellstorm intact.
... Mostly..
It was then that the weight of bandages on her head, covering where her left eye would be, were felt. She touched it with her hand but recoiled as a stinging was felt.
Then the doctor came in, with almost impeccably stereotypical timing.
"Oh good you're awake. You've been out of it for a few weeks now, but don't worry. You were gonna pull through from the very beginning, we could feel it." The doctor had this stale sense of professionalism draped over what one cold say was a "cheery" demeanor. "In fact, the only reason that you were out so long was the replacement surgery. Fortunately, your contract with the Security Firm included your consent on the form, so we were able to begin immediately, otherwise, the eye may not have taken."
Wait... What? Aka sat staring at him, wordlessly, just trying to make heads or tails of all this. The doctor, seeming to sense her confusion sighed and walked over to her. He started to unwind the bandages from her head until she could make out more and more of the room. Suddenly, Aka was able to see everything, including the doctor handing her a mirror to look at herself.
...
The eye was green. It didn't match... She wasn't even sure if other people could tell if it was fake or not. Not that it mattered...
This eye wasn't hers, it was foreign and strange. It almost stung just to look, but still... it was practical. Maybe even a little sentimental in some ways.
The doctor began to speak as she was looking at herself. "Yeah, that was the first model we got. We'll be able to make you one in the right color soon though, so just..."
"No." Aka cut him off as she looked away from the mirror, handing it to him. "It's better this way."
The doctor looked puzzled. "Umm.... alright." he took the mirror and began to speak again. "Anyway, you should be discharged within the week, but you'll have to medicate at home, so I'll be getting you a prescription. It will be odd having to take pills every day, but I'm sure you'll get used to it."
