History and Sample
- History:
- Gareth is from a nearby island with a normal, loving and supportive family. The family owned and operated a farm in a relatively quiet area of the island. He has an older brother that is super talented with dust, and as a result of this got a job with Atlas’ military as one of their specialists. Primarily his brother specializes in dust use and is notably impressive. Gareth himself was content to live with working on the farm, rather than the dangerous job of a huntsman. This quiet life continued until one day when Grimm began to rampage too close to the area. A Huntress followed and while she defeated the dark creatures, the farm was destroyed in the crossfire. Burned down due to careless attacks from the huntress in question. His family made it out fine, though the farm itself did not and little was truly salvageable from the incident. Feeling apologetic, the huntress unlocked Gareth’s aura, with his semblance manifesting a few days later. Gareth’s summon beast showed up with an unusual desire to eat fire, or attempt to, and while Gareth didn’t understand this, he didn’t have a say in the matter apparently. Getting to Bellmuse was tough since Gareth was broke and not exactly an exceptional candidate. He experimented with dust on his own in the meantime, Hati occasionally stealing some of the fire crystals his brother had sent him, thus leading to him discovering some interesting effects he could cause by combining his semblance with dust use. Eventually, his brother showed up, helping the rest of the family get set up elsewhere and sending Gareth to Syne, as he didn’t appear to have any better ideas of what to do without the farm. Gareth made it to Syne shortly after, and while not impressing anyone, managed to get through the exam required to attend the academy.
- RP Sample:
- Gareth sat with his legs crossed, eating his sandwich as he picked up his phone. The little black dog he had managed to befriend with months of treats was laying across his lap. He found himself gesturing as he spoke on the phone and made himself rest his arm on his leg so he wouldn’t throw food every which way.
“Yes, I know,” Gareth said, taking a breath to keep his patience. He listened to the woman on the other end talk for a while, waiting to interject again. When there wasn’t an immediate chance to, he rolled his eyes and started to take a bite out of his sandwich. He stopped and frowned at it. There was more missing than he remembered.
Conspicuously more.
Gareth frowned at the dog on his lap.
It looked up at him, wagging its tail uncertainly.
He could only blame himself for leaving it so close to its mouth.
“Uh-huh,” he said into the phone, staring hard at the sandwich. He was weighing how gross it would be to keep eating. Gareth had heard a dog’s mouth was cleaner than a human’s, but he had also definitely seen it eat from the garbage. And lick itself.
He paused his analysis to continue talking on the phone for a few more minutes.
Gareth gestured with his sandwich again then dropped it back onto his leg.
This time he pulled it away before the dog got it again.
“It’s mine!” Gareth whispered to it, angling the phone away from him.
The dog tried looking cute and sorry.
He tried to keep the stern look as he shook his head, carefully holding the sandwich up and away from the dog.
“No one,” Gareth answered when the woman on the other end of the phone call asked who he was talking to. “I’m still listening.
She continued talking about all the things she needed this time and Gareth idly took a bite of his sandwich.
He immediately made a face when he remembered that a dog ate from it a second ago.
Gareth thought about it a little longer then took another bite. He had already eaten the part the dog’s mouth had touched, so it wasn’t any grosser. Besides, he already took the sandwich away from the dog and he was still hungry.
