He thinks with relative simplicity, often using his guts rather than his brains but defers to people who show good leadership skills. He has a compulsion to aid others in some way or another and gets progressively twitchy when he can’t. In combat, he prefers to go in first and hard, delivering heavy cleaves and sharp thrusts before retreating and repeating.
Abilities
Aura type: Defense
Aura Color: Clear orange
Semblance: Igni Alis
Roux channels his aura to temporarily manifest as a pair of wings on Roux’s back and begins to dissipate right after forming, appearing as if to be burning away. While present, Roux is capable of flying short distances at a fixed speed of 30kmph, negating fall damage, and increased maneuvrability. Igni Alis’ flight is uninhibited by weight, but can be displaced by force; additionally, Igni Alis only lifts Roux. Other cargo may also be lifted, but is limited to what Roux himself can carry. Each usage costs 10 AP.
Item 1: Bas Pushka
Modelled after the German Zweihander with a blade significantly thicker and wider than its real-life counterpart, it relies almost entirely on its sheer size and weight to crush through enemy defences. Its segmented blade stands at roughly 4’10 when compressed together but can extend to a full 6 feet, however, retraction is significantly slower, being unable to be used effectively in combat. In its extended form, the internal framework between the blades is protected from the sides by the angle in which the blades segment. However, if the internal framework is attacked on the broad side by a small weapon, internal damage or even destruction may occur.
Item 2: Pharis
A full-face helmet modelled after a biker’s helmet with an outer layer of melted down rebar. Two searchlights are interworked into the helmet and sends out bright light from either side of the head, pointing forward. The searchlight is activated and deactivated by a switch on the side of the helmet. The glass separating the face from the outside world is transparent to allow better vision.
History and Sample
- History:
- Born as the bastard son of a wealthy bureaucrat, he and his mother were sent away to avoid political and marital scandal when she was found to be pregnant. His mother, Rosetta Lanj, was a lowly maid attempting to break into the game of the wealthy and political by bearing one of their sons. Growing up, Roux was subject to the stringent and harsh trainings of his mother as well as the racial discrimination due to his Faunus appearance. His only solace in those years was an aged nomad by the name of Vieux Diable who would pass by their town every few months before to trade and rest for a few days before leaving again to roam the countryside. Whenever Vieux was in town, Roux would come to him for stories about the world outside and what it was it was like travelling so far out. Often, he would tell tale of other towns and their customs and quirks or his work as a sort of handyman, but every so often, he would tell tale of trouble on the road. A group of bandits or a few grimm would occasionally find themselves on his path to threaten his life and they would more often than not find themselves undone by the large sword he carried. The more the two met, the more Roux found himself idolizing him, wishing to emulate him and eventually, he began to. After his mother’s trainings, he would find himself doing odd jobs for the townspeople, albeit, generally Faunus rather than human at first, but eventually, the ratio evened out. In a few years, he had become a handyman in his own right and a go-to guy if you needed help with something, even going so far as to aid the town guards in their patrols and receive some combat training in return. His mother would never know of this as she had become bed-ridden around the time he’d started as a handyman. Days were long, life was hard, but through following Vieux, it had grown to be liveable.
Some time past his 14th birthday, a horde of beowolves had beset the town. The town guard had fought admirably but the sheer number of grimm eventually overwhelmed them and ravaged the town. By happenstance, Vieux had arrived just in time to come to the town’s defense. Armed with his massive sword, he tore through their numbers with inhuman strength, and routed the horde by dawn the next day. Though no longer in immediate danger, the damage done to the town was catastrophic and, with so few people left alive, irreparable. Roux had been buried beneath a pile of corpses for most of the night, but was able to catch glimpses of Vieux fighting. Rosetta, would not survive the night, having being besieged be beowolves in her sleep. With nothing left in the town to keep them, the townspeople wandered off, looking for greener pastures in larger towns. As for Roux, he would be taken under Vieux’s wing after some discussion between them. Before they left town, they scavenged for select items that Roux would find vital to his survival outside. From the town smithy, they worked together to fashion him a bastard sword for his protection. From what was left of residential, they stocked themselves with foods, clothing, and other amenities. The next 4 years, Roux would learn more from Vieux than he did in the 9 years prior, particularly where combat and philosophy was concerned. As time passed, Roux eventually reforged his bastard sword into a compressible zweihander named Bas Pushka as well as forging an illuminating helmet named Pharis and even unlocked his semblance, Igni alis. Though Vieux took the forefront of most battles, Roux was becoming increasingly adept and found a sort of profound pleasure whenever he swung his sword.
Life with Vieux was filled with fun and danger, intermingled but was far from fulfilling. The night of his town’s massacre still burned brightly in his mind and he pondered how often nameless towns like his get wiped off the map every day. A profound itch had started in him to do all he could to prevent the same fate from befalling anywhere or anyone else. It was no surprise then that when news of Syne academy had reached his ear, he parted ways with Vieux in order to pursue a career as a hunter. Accepting his decision, Vieux promised to make contact with him if he ever found himself in Bellmuse’s capital again. With no idea what awaited him, Roux made his way to Syne, still doing odd jobs in every town along the way.
- RP Sample:
- It was a hot summer’s day in the smithy of another nameless town a week’s trek away from the Capital. As the hammer struck down on molten steel, the excitement in Roux’s heart overtook the numbness in his hammering hand. Inspecting his blade one last time, its fiery glow reflected from his eyes, so focused, it seemed to sculpt the blade just from its glare. Plunging it into the coolant, a hissing steam spilled out into the air, blinding everyone nearby. Wiping the sweat from his brow, he pulls the steel back into open air, placing a finger to it and drawing a trickle of blood before it heals over.
“Mr. Voller, I’m just about done here. I can reassemble Bas on my own later so I’ve free time if you need help with anything.”
“Roux, you saved me from a beowolf just out of town. It doesn’t exactly feel right asking you for more help than you’ve already given especially when all you’ve asked for is to use my forge.”
“I see. I wouldn’t want to burden you with guilt so I won’t ask further. Do you happen to know if anyone else in town needs help, though?”
“No, I don’t think anyone needs any serious help right now. Though, I did hear that the old lady McNally was having trouble with her toilet, if you feel up for some plumbing, haha!”
Mr. Voller’s laughs echo loud and far, clearly more amused by his half-joke than he ought have been.
“I’ll head right over, then. May I leave my things here? I’d hate to have them sullied so soon.”
“Whoah, wait, I didn’t think you’d actually say yes to that!”
His words fell on deaf ears as the sound of Roux’s footsteps grew fainter the closer he got to McNally residence.
