Overall Personality: Kida appears as an incredibly strong-willed young man who could be described, in a word, as resolute; he is courageous, determined, stoic, admittedly prideful, and unwavering in his pursuit of absolute perfection. Around strangers especially, he seems to carry himself with an amicable temperament. While not terribly talkative, he has no problem politely conversing with other students and kindly offering his aid as the need arises, no matter the situation or problem at hand. However, the near-chivalrous personal code that Kida currently lives by has only been evident for about year now, almost certainly prompted by the crippling guilt remaining from his teenage years.
Being born from a bloody situation and forced into a life of violence, Kida had hardly any time to live out a normal childhood. Like most any young boy, he initially experienced moments of happiness and relaxation, but his mentor at the time found genuine pleasure in combat, and more specifically, killing Grimm. Not out of rage, or vengeance. Simply for pleasure, and to momentarily quell an insatiable lust for power. Constantly traveling, training, and hunting with this man at a very impressionable age, it didn’t take long for Kida to adopt similar qualities. With his mentors sanity gradually deteriorating, this passion eventually evolved into bloodlust- an intense, primitive satisfaction in killing he still actively suppresses to this day. No matter how hard he tries to keep his mind clear while hunting, sometimes he simply can’t help but let a bestial smirk surface as he takes the life of a Grimm.
Despite the emotional hardships he's suffered for as long as he can remember, Kida has recently grown and changed considerably, gaining in both strength of body and mind. The sociopathic tendencies and ruthless demeanor of his youth have melted into a somewhat "worldly" view on things and the people around him; he's come to realize over time what matters most to him, and what he is willing to sacrifice to protect this ideology. It took unfathomable loss for him to finally understand where his true priorities lie.
Abilities
Aura type: Defense
Aura Color: White
Semblance: Buff: Aura Manifestation: Kida has the ability to, at the cost of a bit of aura, project his aura field physically for various purposes. When activated, Kida will emit a coating of aura that effectively covers his frame and weapon. He most commonly uses this silhouette of raw energy for defensive purposes, acting as an “extra layer” to defend against either physical, or dust-based attacks. This ability can also be used, albeit not very often, to increase the power of his blows, or enhance his overall speed.
Item 1: Prototype Greatsword - “Dragon Fall”: Quite possibly the only good thing that ever came from his previous mentor; this sword, while still no more than a rough copy, is modeled after an ancient Hunters sword known as Dragon Fall. Yes, it lacks any sort of potential for transformation, and with the incredible technological leaps we’ve made over the past few centuries, a sword of modern design would probably be just as effective. Still, a sword tailor made for hunting dragons suits him well; there’s no other weapon he’d dream of wielding. Besides, with plenty of work, and a bit of help from local weapon smiths, he just might guide the sword back to its former power and glory.
Item 2: Sterk's Uniform: An expertly crafted uniform and cloak, tailor made for the users aura. For Hunters with a semblance like Kida's, this attire is quite accommodating in regulating the manifestation of their aura. Without this uniform, or his old apparel, Kida would be unable to "de-activate" his semblance after initial use; his aura would simply continue to radiate, quickly burning itself out. While it doesn't help to generate aura in any way, this attire allows Kida the ability to use his semblance more selectively, turning it "on and off" as he pleases at the cost of minimal aura. Yet, even without the use of semblance actively buffing him, wearing this uniform passively increases his corporeal defense by 10.
History and Sample
- History:
- Kida was born on Remnants southernmost, unnamed frozen landmass, of a woman hanged among other corpses on a tree that was discovered by a large group of informal Hunters. Equally talented combatants, but lacking in overall knowledge of Grimm, from anatomy to behavior. This group was under the command of a brutal man Kida would rather leave nameless; he simply refers to him as “Mentor” now. Despite seeing the child's successful birth from a still mother as a bad omen, the mercenary leader Mentor decided to adopt him at the behest of his lover who had suffered multiple miscarriages throughout her life. Kida holds no memories of this woman, and mentioning her was forbidden, but she supposedly died when he was still an infant. Starting at an age many would consider far, far too young, Kida was trained by Mentor to use a Longsword, eventually a Greatsword, and began formally hunting with his group at the tender age of ten.
As the years passed, Kida quickly took after his mentor, both in combative skill and overall mentality. By the time he hit 16, he’d become an incredible swordsman, a respectable hunter, even with a lack of formal training, and an obvious favorite of Mentor. More due to the deteriorating mental state of their leader than anything else, the rest of Mentors hunting band eventually abandoned him, Kida being the only one to stay behind. Despite their sudden, exponential drop in numbers, Mentor had no intention of slowing down with large-scale hunts; Kida sounded no objections. In fact, as an unhealthy diligence continued to eat away at his mentors sanity over his last few years, killing Grimm seemed to be the only thing that interested him. No more helping nearby towns, no more paid contracts in general. Just search and destroy; killing for the sake of killing.
And this is how things continued for the next 3 years or so, and he’d probably be doing the same thing today if he hadn’t learned the truth about Mentor. Sparing the more personal, emotional details, Kida was 19 when he parted with his mentor for good, and continued to travel the small landmass hunting Grimm, and clearing his destructive mind for the next few months. Devoid of any true purpose, and actively trying to forget about whom he called mentor, Kida eventually decided it would be best to leave the icy tundra he’d known his whole life. Having hunted Grimm independently for almost as long as he could remember, and with no notable skills other than his swordsmanship, Kida figured his best chance at a fresh start would be traveling to one of Remnants famed combat schools, eventually becoming a certified Hunter.
- RP Sample:
- Kida’s eyes widened, and his mouth followed suit, but quickly snapped closed as no words came to fill the gap. He gritted his teeth, and the hands previously hanging passively at his sides clenched into tight fists as realization crashed over him like a charging Goliath.
“Y-you…”
Emotions he’d never really felt before suddenly swelled; sadness, anxiety, betrayal, and more so than anything, rage. He’d been played as a fool. Lied to. Cheated even. It felt as if his heart had just been ripped from his chest. After all these years- his entire life, Kida had been following in the footsteps of a monster. A criminal. A false hunter. A Murderer.
“What are you babbling about boy? Tracks lead this way. I don’t want to lose-”
His comment was cut short by the unmistakable sound of steel retreating from its sheath. As Gascoigne slowly faced about, he found himself focusing on the tip of his disciples bared sword, a mere two feet away from his larynx.
“You… you killed them.” Is all the flustered young man could manage, both hands clenched fast around the hilt of his weapon.
