Likes:
-Getting his hair and head patted/scratched.
-Any and all red meat, Reynard does not discriminate.
-Being immersed in combat.
Dislikes:
-As comes with the territory of loving combat, Reynard hates to lose.
-Fitting his doglike personality and appearance, Reynard greatly dislikes vegetables but will tolerate fruit.
-Another result of his doglike nature, Reynard hates to be alone and tries his best to make friends.
Fears:
-Loud booming noises such as thunder, fireworks, and canon fire all terrify Reynard to the point of hiding. However, through his many years of combat training the sound of gunshots no longer affect him.
-As with most Faunus, Reynard holds a deeply seeded fear of being discriminated against for his lineage. While he will never show the fear to others if he can help it, it is almost instinctual for him to feel it.
-Reynard also has a fear of the mailman, as do any dogs with a lick of sense, and any time he sees someone delivering the mail he will instinctually chase them off violently.
Overall Personality: Reynard is a very friendly Faunus who is generally very easy to get along with. He doesn’t have issues making friends because of his loyal and trusting personality, and as a result will typically find himself surrounded by people at all times. One of the things he most looks forward to about having a team in the academy is that fact that he will have his own group of friends to fight for and protect. Unfortunately, his very straightforward personality will also often lead him to being easily tricked by others. Despite how often this happens, instead of getting mad Reynard will simply laugh at himself and move on because he is not easy to anger. In order to truly anger him, one must bring harm to those he considers his “pack”.
In battle Reynard’s personality not only remains the same, but greatly intensifies. When he fights he doesn’t think a whole lot and runs purely off of raw instinct. This tends to be his greatest asset, while simultaneously creating a very exploitable weakness. As a result of his great speed and overwhelming physical strength, Reynard often will unleash an alarming mix of swift and powerful attacks to drive his opponents down aggressively and end the fight in as quick of a manner as possible. Unfortunately, this often results in him exhausting his resources at an abnormal rate if someone, such as a team member, isn’t there to reign him in. The exception to him being reigned in, though, is when he is angry. Because it is such a difficult thing to do, when he loses his control Reynard will go into a full on berserker mode that makes him impossible to calm down until he either passes out from exhaustion, has knocked himself out from physical damage, or knocks out the one to cause the anger.
When it comes to relationships or love, Reynard doesn’t especially try to seek out anyone. He lives by the philosophy that one day, if he is destined to find a woman who will spend her life with him, it will happen whether he seeks it or not.
Abilities
Aura type: Recovery (recover +5 Aura per post)
Aura Color: Light blue
Semblance: Damage type – Reynard’s refers to his semblance as “Impact Semblance” due to its effects and how he releases it. The idea behind it is that he compresses his aura as tightly as possible into one point, and upon impact with something the compressed aura releases in an explosion of energy. This explosion doesn’t involve a blast of fire, but instead just a large force of impact. The more Aura that Reynard compresses, the more damage is done upon release. (Limit is 20 of course)
Item 1:
Weapon: Reynard’s primary weapon is a pair of clawed gauntlets that are a black color and cover from his finger tips to his elbows. His fighting style primarily centers around using the claws on the gauntlet combined with his own extraordinary strength. A picture of the gauntlets can be found below, but as opposed to the purple color they are, as previously stated, black.
Item 2: Reynard wears a set up shoulder guards that extends to the top of his shoulders to where his gauntlets meet his elbows. Due to his fighting style relying on heavy mobility, he doesn’t like to have heavy armor covering his body and would prefer to light armor that protects what is important to his style. This armor is for physical defense and not magical.
History and Sample
- History:
- Reynard was born on October 9th in Syne to a father, Raizer, who was a Huntsman and a mother, Elnora, who had to stop being a Huntress due to an injury sustained in combat, having lost her arm. He was born in Vale, where his parents both hailed from, but when he was still young they moved to Bellmuse for a fresh start and because they heard rumors of a small kingdom seeking growth and protection. As a result of his job, his father was often away on missions and the majority of his childhood he spent with his mother. Whenever his father did venture home, he always filled Reynard’s mind with stories of adventure and fighting, resulting in Reynard’s desire to become a huntsman seeding itself at a young age. It didn’t take long before his mother noticed him out playing and pretending to be on the adventures that his father told him about on his visits.
Like his mother, Reynard shared the Faunus animalistic traits of a dog. However, where Elnora’s trait was on display in her ears, he had a large black tail that was rather bushy and resembled that of a German Shepherd’s. As a result of their shared animal traits, his mother decided that she would begin training him in the same fighting style she had in preparation for when he would attempt to enter Syne Academy. Gifting him her own weapon, a pair of (now worn) black gauntlets with claws, they spent the majority of every day practicing combat. As it turned out Reynard, despite all of his dreams and aspirations, was no natural to combat. It took a lot of training and repetition for him to learn how to fight hand to hand, and more often than not he would leave the training sessions all beat up and bruised. Much to Elnora’s pride, though, he never gave up or complained about his own weakness, and instead continued to throw himself at every challenge until he finally gained some mastery over it.
His training combat training and skill in battle steadily improved to the point where his mother was confident he would be able to gain access to the academy, however he continued to struggle mightily with using his aura and releasing his semblance.
From very early on in their training, she pinpointed that his fighting style and personality leaned more naturally toward using his speed and power to physically overwhelm his enemies, and thus she didn’t waste any time teaching him how to use dust (only how to defend against it). She figured that his semblance would be one that supplemented these attributes, but despite both of their best efforts they struggled to discovered what this natural ability for him was. It wasn’t until one day, while they were practicing controlling his aura early in his teenage years, that Reynard grew overly frustrated with himself and accidentally released his unintentionally focused aura to cause a crater to appear in the ground and blow himself several feet away from where he was standing. After recovering from her shock, Elnora identified immediately that this accident was actually his semblance and began to train him in its use.
Throughout all of these year of training, his father Raizer would periodically stop in after missions and tell him more stories while also testing him on how his training was progressing. Despite all of his best efforts, Reynard was never able to lay a finger on his father during these sessions. While it frustrated him, it also humbled him to realize just how much he still had to learn and what it took to be a true Huntsman of Syne. As a result, he placed a personal rule to himself that he would not apply to Syne Academy until he was able to land one solid blow on his father. After several more years, upon reaching 17 years of age, Reynard finally managed to land a solid blow on his father. Having met his goal, and getting a little help from his parents in the form of a personal letter of request to be allowed in a year earlier than was normal, he finally submitted his application in the hopes that he could follow in his parents’ footsteps to be a hero and protect the citizens of not just Syne, but the entire world.
- RP Sample:
- ”Reynard, are you listening to me?!”
With a start, Reynard shoots to attention at his mother’s words. His mind had wandered off in thought towards his pending application to Syne Academy. It had been several days since he sent it off, and he knew it would probably be at least a week before it was received and processed, but for whatever reason he couldn’t get over his own excitement. This, essentially, led to his mind often wandering off into the netherworld, much to his mother’s chagrin. The day he sent the letter of application, she had told him that they would be training even harder until he received his acceptance so as to not clack off. Unfortunately for him, his mind had decided to shoot off in mid training session.
With a sudden impact to his stomach, Reynard was launched several feet through the air and landed on his butt with a bounce. “I suppose it would be beneficial to my health if I focused more on fighting you and less on other things…,” he responds to her with obvious embarrassment on his face. For a one armed woman she could certainly still hold her own, even without her beloved gauntlets. Looking down at them covering his hands and forearms, he couldn’t help but feel like he had big shoes to fill.
“This is pointless if your head isn’t in it Reynard. I understand that you are anxious to get your let of acceptance, but worrying about it is pointless. What will be, will be,” she tells him sternly before motioning at him to stand up, “Now get up and come at me again.”
Rising to his feet slowly, after all his abdomen was now particularly tender from where she lovingly launched him back, he reassumes his fighting stance before grinning widely at his mother. “You’re right, I guess I should just focus on what I do best,” he says excitedly before lunging forward with full force at her. Swinging a gauntleted fist at her head, he immediately slides sideways having figured that she would dodge his attack with ease. Years of experience proved him right, as he watched her turn her body sideways in a manner as to both dodge his attack and kick at his head from the side. Having gained an extra fraction of a second from his preemptive move to the side, Reynard ducks beneath her leg, in the opposite direction of his initial shift, and into the advantageous situation of being at her back. Grinning like a madman he launches a fist at the center of her back and is only met with shock as she jumps up in the air and back flips behind him. Knowing a counter attack is incoming, he pivots and focuses his aura into a spot above his gauntleted forearm to launch her backward with his semblance when she tried to counterattack. As he turns he sees a kick coming at her in the perfect trajectory of landing on his defensively placed gauntlet and he can’t help but feel excitement at the fact that he was about to get her. Within a heartbeat, though, he went from the exhilarating thrill of victory to the crushing weight of defeat as she, at the last possible second, changes the angle of her kick sharply and brings it down on the back of his leg. The force of the blow causes it to collapse, and as he begins to fall down her feels her connect a punch to his chest and launch him backward several feet once again.
Breathing heavily, he shouts out exasperatedly, “OH COME ON! I thought I finally had you!”
Elnora only smiles at him knowingly and responds with, “That was where you went wrong. I could feel the excitement emanate from your body and new something was wrong, so I change attack angle at the last second. Your father, despite all of his strength and ability, has always had the same problem. That’s why he could never defeat me.”
Reynard’s jaw drops in astonishment at this proclamation, as up until this point she had never revealed to him anything about Raizer being unable to bring her down. “Seriously? Dad NEVER beat you? But how? I have landed blows on you regularly but until recently was never able to even graze him?” he throws back at her in response, still trying to wrap his head around how truly impressive his mother was.
“Yes, you have landed blows on me, but you never defeated me. You also have to understand, Reynard, that when your father and I used to spar each other and fight at Beacon Academy I still had two arms,” she calmly explains to him, grinning at his exasperation.
“Unreal!” he exclaims excitedly, clearly excited about this revelation, “And you have been training me this whole time! I can’t wait to test my skills at Syne, but can you show me how you...?”
He begins question her earnestly, understanding that this will be one of his last few opportunities before he enters the academy.
