”Hm…” was all that came out of Alex’s mouth as he sat in the basement of the Syne Academy lecture hall.  The room used to be a class room for a smithing class to teach students how to make and maintain their weapons.  It had all the toys a blacksmith could want; a large collection of hammers, smelters, anvils, scrap metal, forges, and many other tools that anyone could use to forge, clean or repair their weapons.  However there wasn’t a true blacksmith professor on campus at the moment so the classroom was being used for storage at the moment, however all of the equipment still worked quite well.

Which was something Alex was glad about.  What he needed to do he really didn’t want to trust to someone else.  He was sitting in front of a workbench, arms crossed over his chest, and a thoughtful look on his face as he stared at the object he had placed on the work bench when he entered the room; his weapon, Wrecker.  Not long ago he had faced a Beowolf on a beach, and the very next day he had faced a King Taijitu on the same beach.  Under Normal circumstances this wouldn’t be a problem save for one thing; Alex’s weapon was made of caste iron, which didn’t agree with water too much.  He had properly cleaned it and dried it after the first beach battle, but the second battle on that damp beach was too much for the weapon to handle and it cracked as a result.  It was still usable but there now there was a chance it could fall apart completely, which would expose its internal workings of it, which allowed it to transform into a backpack.  He had to replace the outer shell, or the weapon would become useless in time.  He preferred to work on his gear himself.  Been that way ever since he started out… and it wasn’t changing now.

Reaching down, Alex grabbed a couple of metal ingots and placed them on the work bench in front of himself, trying to decide which metal to make the new outer shell out of.  He already used caste iron so that was out of the picture.  Picking up the steel ingot and testing its weight, Alex considered using this metal.  It’s what he wanted to make the weapon out of originally, and he now had plenty of it on hand unlike 4 years ago… but it just didn’t seem strong enough.  Tossing the steel ingot to the side, Alex then glanced at the ingot of Colten.  It was a reasonable choice, comparable to titanium in strength, and there wasn’t enough titanium to make the weapon out of that so the Colten did have his attention.  The problem was that he would have to caste the metal into the spherical shape of the weapon, it was just infeasible to do it with a hammer and heat source… and Colten’s melting temperature was so high that he was having doubts that the equipment here could melt it.  Alex pushed that ingot to the side as well, and glanced down at what he had left.

It was a rather unusual metal, commonly known as Silver Titanium Alloy.  The only other choice was Rainbow Titanium.  There wasn’t much of either metal in the smithing classroom, so if he picked one he wasn’t going to have enough and would have to use the regular Titanium to finish the job.  However he would also have to replace the chain of the weapon too since the caste iron chain wouldn’t be able to handle the weight of this weapon if made from any of the Titanium.  However, there was one more possibility…

Several hours later, Alex wiped his brow to prevent sweat from falling into his eyes and examined what he had forged.  He had combined the three forms of Titanium that was available in the shop and had just enough to forge a new chain and outer shell.  Now he just had to let the metal cool before he attached it to the internal mechanisms of his weapon.  Considering how much he was changing it though, Alex decided it needed a new name.  Calling a wrecking ball by the name of Wrecker just seemed… cliché.  It didn’t take him long to put it all together once the metal was cool, and after picking up to test it’s weight, Alex smiled.  ”You’ll do nicely.  Time to introduce the world to my upgraded wrecking ball, Obivinator.”
